The Goodmorning Underwear are a pair of panties that vibrate to wake you up in the morning. This project is a continuation of my ongoing efforts to further the field of electronic underwear. Unlike all of my previous projects that use complex circuitry and fabrication techniques, this one is based around the littleBits prototyping platform and is easy enough anyone can make at home.

This particular project came about because I finally wanted to make a garment that my girlfriend would actually want to wear. While it may be hard to believe, when I made the Clap Off Bra it was not really for her. Sure, I may have gifted it to her to use, but it was really something that I made for myself. This time around it was important to me that I should repay her for all of her patience and make something that she would truly appreciate.

Truthfully, this is a little bit tricky because I have noticed that she does not wear underwear all that often. Largely she wears underwear only when she goes to bed. While this may seem like a backwards approach to underwear usage, it ultimately proved to be my design constraint. Thus, I began to consider how her underwear could be enhanced to improve her resting hours.

Through nearly a decade of intensive study and observation, I have come to learn that she is not really much for being woken up in the morning and does not particularly care for alarm clocks. However, over the last ten years I have also observed that she is awfully fond of devices containing vibrating motors. It then goes to follow that she would enjoy her alarm clock much more if it vibrated her awake instead of bombarding her with horrible, wretched, noise. To test this hypothesis, I have created the Goodmorning Underwear. It is my sincere hope that this garment will promote a happy, healthy, and holistic lifestyle.

Step 1: Materials

Step 2: Setup the Cloudbit

Power up the Cloudbit by connecting it the USB power bit.

Configure the Cloudbit using the easy-to-follow initialization walkthrough on their website.

Step 3: Build the Circuit

Connect the following bits in series:

Power Bit (p1) --> Cloudbit --> Pulse Bit --> Wire Bit --> Vibration Motors Bit --> Vibration Motors Bit

Once the circuit is built and running, adjust the dial on the pulse bit until it is pulsing to your liking.

Step 4: Make a Google Calendar Alert

Create a new Google Calendar which will be used for setting events to trigger your alarm.

Each new event will be used to trigger the alarm. You can make single events or recurring events as per your preference.

Step 5: Configure 'If This Then That'

Go to If This Then That and create a new recipe that activates the Cloudbit output high for 30 seconds when any event starts on Google Calendar.

Step 6: Cut Brackets

Use the attached template to make mat board mounting brackets for the larger chain of littleBits.

Step 7: Fasten the littleBits Together

Insert the littleBits into the mounting bracket with the holes and place the long thinner bracket on top. Note that there is not cardboard mounts for the two vibration motor bits, as this was deemed unnecessary.

Use zip ties to securely fasten all of the littleBits in the circuit together.

Step 8: Prepare the Fabric

Cut two rectangeles that 3.5" x 6" and 3" x 3.5" out of the second pair of undies. These will be used to add a sense of style to the circuitry and cover up the felt padding that will be wrapped around it.

Next, cut a small piece of the elastic band for use as a battery holder strap.

Cut two rectangular pieces of felt that are 3.5" x 5.5" and 2.5: x 3.5".

Glue and fold over the edges of the underwear fabric squares to keep it from fraying after it is sewn.

Step 9: Pad the Electronics

Wrap the felt around the circuitry and sew the the seam together with whatever stitch works best.

Next, wrap the decorative fabric around the felt and sew this seam together as well.
接着，将装饰布料裹在毛毡上，同样将接缝处缝起来。

For an added touch, cut two small circles of fabric from the extra underpants and adhere them to the vibration motors using the motor's adhesive backing.

Step 10: Finishing Touches

Cut a 5" and a 2 " section of adhesive-backed hook and loop fastener.

Adhere the soft side of the fastener to the backside of the padded electronics.

Next take the fastener's plastic "hook" side and adhere the longer of these pieces centered below the front waist line. Position the shorter second piece vertically between the two leg holes.

Sew the plastic motor snaps wherever you see fit to place them (in relation to the position of the circuitry).

Finally, take the small piece of cut elastic strip and sew it to the underwears to form a small loop to hold the 9V battery.
