Changing Fallback Font on Ubuntu

Sometimes you want to change default fallback font:

You are saved. You can change all these with fontconfig. Create or Edit ~/.config/fontconfig/fonts.conf with following content:

  1. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
  2. <!DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM "fonts.dtd">
  3. <!-- -->
  4. <fontconfig>
  5. <!-- Generic name aliasing -->
  6. <alias>
  7. <family>sans-serif</family>
  8. <prefer>
  9. <family>Liberation Sans</family>
  10. </prefer>
  11. </alias>
  12. <alias>
  13. <family>serif</family>
  14. <prefer>
  15. <family>Liberation Serif</family>
  16. </prefer>
  17. </alias>
  18. <alias>
  19. <family>monospace</family>
  20. <prefer>
  21. <family>Liberation Mono</family>
  22. </prefer>
  23. </alias>
  24. </fontconfig>

then run fc-cache -fv and restart X, everything should be fine.
