What is the history of Rangji Mandir?

Rangji Temple is one of the oldest and most unique temples in Vrindavan. It was constructed in 1851 by Seth Radha Krishna Chari and his wife Ranga Nayaki, who were South Indian devotees of Lord Ranganatha. They wished to introduce South Indian culture and tradition into the sacred city of Vrindavan, where Lord Krishna had spent his childhood.

The main deity of the temple is Lord Ranganatha, a form of Lord Vishnu lying on the serpent Sheshnag. This form of Vishnu is mostly worshipped in South India, especially in Tamil Nadu. One of the unique aspects of Rangji Mandir is its golden pillar Dwajasthambam, 50 feet tall, in front of the temple. The temple also contains idols of Lord Lakshman, Goddess Sita, Lord Ram, and Goddess Lakshmi.

The priests residing here maintain strict South Indian traditions. Specific festivals such as Brahmotsavam and Rath Yatra are observed with complete dedication. During these celebrations, the idol of Lord Rangji is taken out on a chariot for public darshan.
